The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child see a dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than his/her first birthday. Most children react positively to our office. However, there are instances where children are too anxious or scared to relax. Providing a friendly and positive experience is important in keeping the child calm and at ease. We utilize many child friendly methods such as: ·Tell, Show, Do ·Positive Reinforcement ·Distraction techniques The goal of the first visit is to introduce you and your child to our office and to put the child at ease. A dental examination will be performed on the first visit and "pictures" of the teeth (x-rays) may be taken. The teeth may then be cleaned depending on the child's needs and disposition. A prize or toy will be given to the child at the end of the appointment to promote a positive experience. When a filling is necessary, conservative treatment is our goal. With early detection of certain kinds of tooth decay "drill-less dentistry" (air abrasion) can be utilized. Air abrasion has the benefit of possibly eliminating the need for local anesthesia in many cases. Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) is also used to make the patient more comfortable. |
